Life has a way of kicking our butts - physically, emotionally, economically, professionally. For Hugo Luna it was a sucker punch to the face from an overzealous bouncer. He suffered 73 fractures and needed extensive facial reconstructive surgery (not to mention the emotional toll).
For Luna, this experience may have just been what he needed.
"At some point everyone needs to get their asses kicked," he joked.
Watch Luna tell his incredible story of getting back up again, continuing his career as a teacher, coach and the lessons he learned along the way.
Hugo and I met as students at Chaminade University of Honolulu in the Fall of 1994. Far away from our homes - he's from Nogales, Arizona and I'm about four hours away in El Paso, Texas - you might say that we were a couple of fish out of water.
Hugo was able to use this traumatic experience in his life as a way of self-reflection, analyzing the person that he was before the punch and understanding what kind of person he wanted to be after.
"It changed my life," Hugo said.
